Why You Should Move To Canada

Why You Should Move to Canada

Canada is more than just America: The Sequel. It’s the Great White North, eh!

Take it from someone who knows, everything you love about where you live now is even better north of the border. If you’ve ever thought about moving to Canada, I’m about to give you the honest truth about why you should.

Seriously, if this list doesn’t have you scoping out Calgary or Vancouver houses for sale, you’re moosing out big time, hoser.

Um, I mean “missing out.”

Immigration is easy

For many, the biggest thing keeping them from moving to another country is the hoops they have to jump through to settle down there. Well, I’m happy to report that (as is befitting for the most polite and accommodating country in the world) Canada makes the immigration possible as smooth and sweet as fresh maple syrup. Yum.

Even in the face of international recessions, Canada has long resisted lowering its immigration quotas. There are numerous paths to citizenship that out-of-towners can take, such as the Express Entry Program, the LMIA Work Visa, the Provincial Nominee Program, the Family Class Sponsorship, and more. A little research can help you figure out which one is best for you.

Universal healthcare

While health insurance remains a sore and sticky subject in the U.S., Canada has had its healthcare system figured out for decades. Provinces distribute health identification cards to all eligible residents, including some expats. Fully funded by government taxes, the Canadian healthcare system then guarantees life-saving treatments for those who need them, and they are often either free or pretty close to it. U.S. News even ranked Canada as having the number one healthcare system in the world!

A very low crime rate

Wherever you put down roots, it’s important you find a place where you feel safe and secure. Not just for your benefit, but for the benefit of your loved ones, too. And once again, Canada distinguishes itself in a big way.

Since 2000, overall crime across Canada has consistently trended downward, as has the crime severity index. This indicates that not only is there less crime in Canada, what crime exists is often less serious than in other countries. Comparing Canada to the United States specifically, the results are eye-opening. The U.S. annually suffers three times the number of gun-related crimes as its neighbor to the north. Even worse, the number of recorded murders is 23 times higher in America, and the number of rapes is 147 times higher!

Cultural diversity

More than 250,000 new permanent residents make their home in Canada each year, and they all bring their own unique perspectives and cultures with them. So committed to diversity is Canada, in fact, that in 1988 it became the first country on earth to enact an official multiculturalism policy. It’s estimated that more than 200 different languages are spoken throughout Canada and that one in every five people is a member of a visible minority, making Canadian society a world leader in promoting tolerance and equality.
